  •        12 February 1899, born in Ballina Ireland. Lived there until the family moved to county Waterford, Ireland
  •         Spent summer holidays at milltown (Malbay) where Lord Mountbatten was assassinated.
  •        22 December 1914, went to sea at the age of 15 as an officer cadet on a British merchant ship (steamer which was later torpedoed)
  •        Put in 3 1/2 years as a cadet for navigating. After the War, he spent 7 years in the Merchant Marine, Where he joined a little course flagship.
  •        He stayed on this s flagship for 6 weeks and then went with another merchant ship to India as an Able Seaman. He became the 3rd Officer on the same ship going to Bombay.
  •        April 1925: he moved to Halifax and stayed for 2 years, then moved to Bramford, laying tracks with the CNR for 6 weeks.
  •        September 1927: Moved to Calgary, where he was drilling water wells.
  •        September 1928: Met his wife Cleo and they married 6 weeks later.
  •        1930: Started his own contracting business.
  •        July 1940: The war started and he joined the Navy and moved to Halifax as a mate.
  •        1941: Promoted to Lieutenant and moves to Headquarters, Ottawa.
  •        1943 - 1946 , Supervisor for the East Coast Boom Defence.
  •        1943: Promoted to Lieutenant Commander.
  •        1946: Demobilized
  •        1947 - 1967 : He was in the business of Crane Rentals; Incorporated his company in 1962; in 1947 he also became an active member of the NOA.
  •        1967 : LCDR Hamilton Retires
  •        1967 - 1985 : Remained an active NOA member
  •        1987: NLCC John A. Hamilton #166 named in memory of this distinguished naval officer.
